Fractions of sliding!

After approximetly 40m of sliding on good old german Tar my bike has this martial look. Astonishingly the techinical damage is small, even the broken gauges are still working and none of the handles are broken. Engine is running perfectly and lights are lightening!

...unfortunately I had a rendezvous on my way back home with 2 hind of which I hit one with my bike! I'm in hospital now and looking' forward to get well soon!

...a day @ the ACE Café!

  

...working for the Olympics in London left us there for almost 2 weeks. Although we didin't have our bikes we started a trip to the legendary Ace Cafe - unfortunately by 'tube'! -  but that gave us the opportunity to test the different brands of beer while sitting in the warm british summer sun which had some of its pretty rare appearances!

....@ the end of testing eachone tried one of the recommendable ACE-Burgers. Short after that the guys with the huge music bassdrum "escortsopelsfordsnissans" entered the place and this was the sign for us to enter the tube again to drive back to the hotel!

..as a former Trucker Station the ACE has a reasonable parkinglot directly in front of the building! Place and time to watch and to be seen!

...Belstaff weather ahead!

 

..on one of my first tests with the new 5x17 rim I was very careful because the tyre was quiet(too) old. I didn't want to risk anything and felt the temperature by hand from time to time, because I had no confidence although the feeling on the backhand was very stable. Driving through the sunny countryside I had a big raincloud in front of me short before I reached home. At least I stayed dry because the thunderstorm started shortly after I was in the house! :o)

I love mondays!

 

In former times you could see a lot more cows in the meadow, but as a result of the current 'milk politics' there are only a few left. You can hardly ignore it if you watch carefully.

 

The weather report started badly with pronouncing some rain at the beginning of the week and  because I spent the whole weekend with working in Frankfurt I was very astonished to see so much sun on monday morning!! - So I decided to transfer my office into one of the cafes of the 'Rurstausee' in the #eifel and made some brakes at nice places just to relax a bit!

...first sunshine after rainy days!

....and my first drive lead me to the local #Kawasaki dealer to collect the spare parts for the front brakes that I did order some days ago. After replacing the break pads I realized that the o-rings from the calipers where worn and damaged too. Although the brakes are ok I'm thinking about replacing the whole front system with one (lighter)from the Kawasaki ZRX that I have already at home...let's see! :o)

...Shopping spareparts + "rock am ring"

...the weather forecast predicts a rainy weekend - as usual - when "rock am ring" takes place! If it is not too bad I take a ride @friday night and listen from outside! :o)

Camera fixing tool

 Cheap and awfull !! My new camera fixing tool from #Hama is an easy and reliable opportunity to make some video footage very spontaneously. Just screw any camera or videocamera to it and start filming while you drive. You can easiliy switch the on/off button in full control of the bike. The big screw beneath is for fixing it in the right angle.

In my first attempt I wrapped it directly around the steering bar, but as you can see now( if you look tightly) I put some selfadhesive foam in between to avoid vibrations, although my last video is done without it. Price here in Germany at #Saturn or #Mediamarkt is 14,95€.

Really cheap and recommendable!  

.... short before dawn!

....the reason why I had to change my brakepads! Of course I knew it before - but you know how it is - you drive and drive and drive and drive and think....next time!! But really it was urgent now, the pads where totally gone. 

I bought a cheap camerafixing tool from #hama that can be mounted anywhere if there is a tube. So I made a test and wondered how good it worked out. I was a bit worried about the vibrations but the bigger problem is the autofocus. Unfortunately it doesn't work so well, but perhaps I can fix it in the menu and choose another preset - or buy another camera uuuuhhh!!

On any Sunday!

Usually it's Sunday or a long weekend when you realize that you urgently have to change brake pads! ...and like always nothing works out fine when you are in a hurry because of sunshine! My calipers are really in a mode that can only be described as used...very used! Refurbishing is the next big thing. :o)

.....on my way bake home from #eifel cafe I had to install a "Peebrake" short before arriving. Mates -  that was urgent!!

Sneaker Style!

 

 ,,,expecting the chaos in the eifel today I just headed for a  short evening round in jeans and sneakers around the "Rurstausee". So when you don't start in full gear it's always good to have the feeling in mind when grip is over! as you can see - well fitted!!

...crowdy day in the Eifel! Everyone seems to have activated his bike. Good to have some places that no one knows!!

Police on every corner around "Ruhrstausee" and certain roads that are blocked at the weekend or bankholiday. Not so much fun and you ask yourself why paying taxes doesn't allow yourself to use all roads at all the time!

24h Nürburgring is ahead!!

In spite of that the rear wheel conversion is in good progress. The 20mm rear axle from Zephyr 1100 is in the turning shop next village to be shortened. Because of the bank holiday weekend it will be next week when it's finished. ......as you see I carry on fumbling!! :o)

Testing a new fork...

 

 ...after some sunny and warm days, where I changed the fork because of a leek in the left arm I decided for a short test trip before the F1 TV report starts. Meanwhile also in the Eifel  "raps" is turning into full yellow and creates a very happy atmosphere when you look into landscape.

Besides this I'm very happy with my modifications, because the fork has strengthened springs from "WIRTH" which give you a better feeling in quick corners and in the brakezone.

....very recommendable!! Next thing now is changing the rearshocks, because now with the stiffer fork the end is a little too weak.

However I will let you know what parts I will use for this!.....  :o)

..after the good experience with the supersprox on the Zephyr I decided to turn over to the same model for my Yamaha Tenere. Anyway the TV program nowadays is so boring that you need some toys for the evening!!  :o)

5x17 rear wheel

 

Starting a conversion of the rear wheel from 4x17 to 5x17. Unfortunately the Zephyr750 has a different rear axle. It's 17mm instead of 20mm(usual). Therefore the question is either changing the bearing of the wheel and keep the axle or changing the axle and keep the bearing of the new wheel?

Here you can see the excenter of a 750(right) and an 1100 model(left).

17/46!!

1. Mai in Germany, sunny, warm weather and everybody is off  with the family. Good choice to change the front sprocket in the sun! 

Last Autumn I started working on a modification concerning the gear ratio. The original was 15/40 and I changed it into 16/46. (man that is short!!) The reason for that was a planed tour in the alpes with some buddies of mine. Their machines are a lot stronger and new!! So I had to compensate the difference in power by a better performance. I learned that a bigger frontsprocket is good for a smooth chain movement and that an extreme short ratio is only suitable for "hilly" layout(like the alpes). Although the performance with it is a lot of fun, it's also a bit "nervy" to rev so high permanently.

Because I live on the countryside with lots of winding streets in front of my house I ordered the next bigger thing. Now the ratio is 17/46 and that!! is a well choosen compromise between engine performance, revs and torque. Now I am right in the middle between the "stock" and the "supershort" ratio. With the again bigger frontsprocket I have the impression that the drivetrain works even better, but that might be subjective because I am so satisfied with the modification. Guys - a modification that I can highly recommend - a well choosen investement in better driveability!  :o)

The "Litauen" pavillon on the former Expo 2000 area!

...presently the job has brought me to Hannover in the North of Germany. I took some photos in the former Expo 2000 Park, but unfortunately the proposted developement of the buildings as part of a new "Gewerbegebiet" didn't succeed. Most of the Pavillons are lost or even demounted. Instead of  busy lifestyle people you find a lot of RC - Car enthusiast who enjoy the huge carfree allees!! Sad somehow!!
